The Hyderabad Traffic Police have intensified a special enforcement drive against motorists obstructing free-left turns at city junctions, registering 9,142 cases between February 9 and February 20.

An officer from the department said that obstruction of free-left lanes has emerged as a frequent violation, disrupting traffic flow, causing congestion and increasing the risk of accidents at key intersections.

An advisory from the department stated that motorists found blocking free-left passages were penalised under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act as part of the drive aimed at strengthening traffic discipline and improving road safety.

Alongside enforcement, the traffic police said sustained awareness and education campaigns are being conducted to sensitise commuters about the importance of adhering to traffic regulations. Social media platforms are also being used to promote responsible driving practices and encourage public cooperation.

Motorists have been advised not to obstruct free-left turns as such actions contribute to congestion and pose safety risks. Citizens have been urged to report traffic violations through the official social media handles of the Hyderabad Traffic Police, the traffic helpline and the e-challan helpdesk.
