High tension broke out in Kamareddy on Saturday (February 21, 2026) following a scuffle between the local cadres of the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the district headquarters town.

An alleged attempt by a group of Congress functionaries to lay siege to the camp office of the Kamareddy MLA K. Venkataramana Reddy of the BJP led to a ruckus, sources said.

The fallout

The scuffle was a fallout of the ongoing war of words between the Congress and the BJP leaders over allegations of land encroachment. The verbal duel escalated after the local leaders of both the parties challenged each other to participate in an open debate on the land encroachment charges.

Chaos prevailed right outside the MLA’s camp office when the Congress cadre gathered at the entrance and raised slogans against Mr. Reddy.

In the melee, irate BJP workers allegedly attacked the car of a local Congress leader with boulders damaging its windshields before flipping the vehicle upside down. They reportedly attempted to set the car on fire.

The police dispersed the BJP and the Congress workers as the situation turned tense, amid utter chaos. Sources said that no permission was granted to the open debate in the town. A large number of police personnel were deployed at the MLA’s camp office and elsewhere in the town to prevent untoward incidents. The police reportedly kept Mr. Reddy under house arrest.

The political tussle between the Congress and the BJP further intensified in the aftermath of the recent Municipal elections.
