The Cyber Crime Police of Bengaluru city have arrested Mysuru-based RTI activist Snehamayi Krishna for allegedly creating fake documents and morphed audio clips to defame a senior KAS officer and former MUDA Commissioner through social media.

According to the complaint lodged by G.B. Natesh, former commissioner of the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), Snehamayi Krishna allegedly used his Facebook account to circulate fabricated documents, edited photographs and manipulated audio clips targeting the complainant.

Based on his complaint, a case was registered at the Bengaluru city Cyber Crime Police Station on February 18, and an investigation was initiated.

Snehamayi Krishna is a Mysuru-based anti-corruption activist who is the complainant in the MUDA case alleging irregularities in the allotment of sites to the wife of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

During the probe, police found that the alleged acts stemmed from personal enmity between the complainant and Vinod B.N., a resident of Bogadi in Mysuru. Investigations revealed that, due to differences in business dealings, Vinod allegedly contacted Snehamayi Krishna, and shared unverified and misleading information with the intent to malign Natesh.

Police said that Snehamayi Krishna allegedly published and circulated the contents on social media platforms, without verifying the authenticity of the material, with the intention of defamation.

In the ongoing investigation, officials have collected and examined the social media posts shared via Facebook, mobile numbers, vehicle registration details, and other digital evidence. Preliminary findings indicate that the circulated content was false and misleading.

A notice was issued to Vinod who appeared before the police for questioning. Upon examination and based on supplementary evidence collected, police arrested him and produced him before the jurisdictional court.
