Video footage of the incident has gone viral on social media. The incident took place within the college building during the final-year internal assessment examination for the subject Homoeopathic Materia Medica. According to college authorities, a student, Shahbaz, was found allegedly using a mobile phone inside the examination hall, in violation of institutional rules. When Assistant Professor Shivaraj Kumar Nashi confronted him over the alleged malpractice, the student reportedly became agitated and punched the professor on his face thrice. He left the examination hall following intervention by other staff members on duty and students. Satish Kalshetty, Principal of the college, told The Hindu that the matter has been referred to the disciplinary committee. The incident has been formally reported to the college administration. “We will convene a meeting and decide on the course of action against the student. As of now, he will not be permitted to write the examinations,” he said.
