A stakeholder policy roundtable convened by Telangana Tourism on Friday, February 20 brought together representatives from government and industry to deliberate on the institutional role, governance structure and long-term direction of the proposed TGMTS. The discussions also examined a broader framework for establishing Hyderabad as an integrated MVT hub, with the overarching objective of positioning Telangana as a leading destination for structured and coordinated medical tourism. The first session focused on industry expectations from the proposed Telangana State Medical Tourism Society, envisaged as the central coordinating body for medical value tourism in the State. Participants discussed the role of TGMTS in stakeholder alignment, facilitation, governance and long-term sectoral coordination. Hyderabad’s competitive strengths were highlighted, including strong clinical outcomes, advanced healthcare infrastructure, cost advantages and a seamless healthcare-hospitality-aviation ecosystem. These factors, participants noted, place the city in a strong position to capture a larger share of the global medical tourism market. The second session centred on a detailed discussion of a proposed framework for establishing an integrated MVT hub in Hyderabad, envisioned as one of the five national MVT hubs outlined in the Union Budget 2026. The group deliberated on the creation of a greenfield medical city under a public-private partnership model, bringing together hospitals, wellness providers, ayurveda institutes, medical colleges, research centres and tourism facilitation services. It was decided that a detailed recommendation paper would be prepared and submitted for consideration.
