Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar reiterated the government’s commitment to fulfil promises made to Telangana movement activists, including allocation of 250 square yards of land, and the formation of a Cabinet sub-committee to implement welfare measures for them.

He was speaking after Kooragayala Uma Rani assumed charge as Mayor of Nizamabad Municipal Corporation on Friday in the presence of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Friday.

Mr Prabhakar congratulated Mayor Uma Rani and Deputy Mayor Salma Tahseen, and explained how the government policies led to Congress bagging maximum seats in 116 municipalities and seven corporations. He said the State Cabinet would take decisions within 40 days to improve employment opportunities and accelerate development in municipalities and corporations.

Addressing the Mayor’s oath-taking ceremony, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud said that politics should be limited to election time and that all parties must come together beyond political differences to ensure urban development, promising special funds for town development.

He said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has been paying special attention to Nizamabad’s growth, while in-charge Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has taken responsibility for mobilising funds for constituency-level development.

Senior leader Shabbir Ali, Nizamabad Rural MLA Bhupathi Reddy and others spoke on the occasion.
