The Cabinet meeting held here on Friday decided to provide appropriate compensation to the building owners and entrepreneurs who lost their shops and ventures in the Wayanad landslides of 2024. A compensation of ₹7 lakh will be provided to the shops that were destroyed in the disaster, regardless of the type or structure of the shops. If the shop owner has lost more than one shop, a compensation of ₹2.5 lakh will be provided for each additional shop. The entrepreneurs who sustained huge losses in the landslide will be given 50% of the loss incurred by each entrepreneur, or the maximum amount of ₹20 lakh in the manufacturing sector, ₹10 lakh in the service sector, and ₹7 lakh in the trade sector to restart the ventures. The fund required for providing compensation will be given to the Wayanad District Collector from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund. The meeting has also decided to assign the Wayanad Collector to distribute the amount.
