The Forest Department has arrested a 35-year-old man, Kumar, from Kongarahalli village in Kollegal taluk, in connection with the death of a tiger near Gundal reservoir recently. A statement from the Assistant Conservator of Forests, Wildlife Sub-Division, Yelandur, said a case had been registered with regard to the death of the tiger on February 15. Kumar was interrogated on Thursday, during the course of the investigation. He was subsequently arrested and remanded to judicial custody, the statement said, while adding that further investigation into the case is in progress. It may be mentioned here that an earlier press release by the Deputy Conservator of Forests and Director of BRT Tiger Reserve, Chamarajanagar, had identified the deceased tiger to be around 5-6 years old and added that preliminary observations had suggested that the tiger might have been caught in a snare trap.
