In a bid to bring water supply and sewerage services closer to residents and resolve issues at the grassroots level, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) launched its basti bata field intervention programme on Friday.

The programme, as per directions of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is for proactive management of drinking water and sewerage issues in the city. Under this plan, officials will visit neighbourhoods every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, to interact with residents, resolve their complaints and develop long-term solutions while promoting water conservation and groundwater enhancement. The programme will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on these days, MD K. Ashok Reddy said.

On Friday, the basti bata began at 6 a.m. with Mr. Reddy inspecting water supply operations and interacting with households in Shankar Nagar, Huda Colony, Deepti Sri Nagar and Miyapur, in and around Serilingampally.

The officials checked water quality and questioned consumers about supply timings and adequacy.

Mr. Reddy also inspected the ongoing sewerage manhole de-silting works in Huda Colony and directed authorities to regularly clear waste and identify damaged or misaligned manholes for reconstruction.

At a clogged manhole on Miyapur main road, since road construction had concealed manhole access and allowed silt to enter the sewer line, he recommended a temporary diversion of the sewer line and urged a permanent solution.

Joint Managing Director Mayank Mittal reviewed water supply complaints in SR Nagar division. In their respective jurisdictions, Hyderabad Region ED Samrat Ashok, Cyberabad Region ED Santosh, and Malkajgiri Region ED Pankaja, along with directors and senior officials, conducted field inspections and engaged with residents to improve service delivery.
