From traditional handicraft items from Manipur to a variety of dress materials from across state by women Self-Help group members are on display at the stalls at the National SARAS mela in Karavali Utsava ground in Mangaluru. The nine-day long mela began on Friday.

The one that immediately catches the attention of visitors is the first stall where a range of woodcarved paintings have been displayed. There are stalls displaying Kalamkari Saree from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana’s Pochampally saris, Sikkim’s traditional saris, Dhotis from Kasaragod, and handloom products from Tripura and West Bengal. There are also stalls displaying Maharashtra Konkani products, beads jewellery articles from Hyderabad, Kerala traditional ornaments, Assam handicrafts, bamboo products, Kanpur leather articles, and Chittara art forms.

Among the stalls of SHG groups from the state include those displaying Kinnala toys from Koppal, Channapatna toys, Molakalmuru saris, Ilakal saris and Dharwad Kasuti saris. There are also stalls selling Jowar Rotis, Rasam powder, Papad, a range of pickles and juices and multigrain food products.

In Akka Food Court, there are stalls selling ‘Girmit’, ‘Roti’, ‘Hoolige’, ‘Neer Dose’, ‘Khara Bhaat’, ‘Kabab’ from jackfruit, ‘Ragi Mudde’, Prawn Fry, Chicken Curry Biryani, Rajasthani Sweets, Kerala Malabar cuisine, Hyderabad Biryani, Odisha Pav Bhaji chats, and Chola Batura from Uttar Pradesh.

There will be cultural programme in the evening every day between 6.30 p.m. and 9 p.m. during the nine-day mela.
