The police launched a stringent security and inspection drive across the Thiruvananthapuram city, and targeted known history-sheeters.

The operation, led by District Police Chief (Thiruvananthapuram City) K. Karthick, focussed on habitual offenders involved in serious crimes including murder, theft, housebreaking, robbery, abduction, rape and narcotics-related cases. As part of the crackdown, 82 criminals were subjected to preventive legal action from February 20 onwards.

Those proceeded against include habitual offenders from various police stations across the city. From the Fort police station limits, the accused include Om Prakash, Shajahan alias Pokkam Shajahan, and Stephan alias Airport Dani. From the Peroorkada police station limits, those booked include Ananthu, Adithyan alias Unnikuttan, Biju Kumar alias Padakki Sabu, Praful Raj, Vishnu alias Porattam Vishnu, and Rajesh alias Aripodi Rajesh.

Those figuring in the rowdy list at Vattiyoorkavu police station including Saikrishna was proceeded against, while from Thampanoor police station limits, the accused include Nikesh Lal alias Doluk, Binoy alias Jojo,, Jithin and Jishnu. From Kazhakuttom police station, Abhilash and Sangeeth were among those apprehended. Shambudev from Vanchiyoor police station limits was also included in the action.

The police said the drive was conducted to strengthen law and order in the city, prevent potential crimes and maintain a peaceful atmosphere during the festive period. Surveillance and inspections have been intensified in bus stands, railway station premises, lodges, coastal areas, colonies and bars.

Mr. Karthick said that strong and sustained measures will continue to ensure public safety and deter criminal activities in the capital city.
