The job fair held at Shikaripur on Friday received an impressive response. As many as 83 companies participated in the fair that attracted over 2,000 job aspirants.

The event, jointly organised by Swami Vivekananda Vidya Samsthe and Alva’s Education Foundation to mark the birthday celebrations of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, was held at Kumudvathi College of Education in the town.

Member of Parliament B.Y. Raghavendra, who inaugurated the fair, conveyed greetings to the job aspirants and suggested that they believe in their strengths and pursue their dream careers. The fair would serve as a platform for the youngsters to transform their aspirations into reality, he said.

He called upon the aspirants to develop skills that enhance their employability. The MP also appealed to the companies participating in the fair to ensure the selected candidates get wages sufficient to lead a dignified life.

Shikaripur MLA and State BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra, who presided over the event, said that as an elected representative of the constituency, providing employment opportunities for the rural youth had been his dream. The job fair, organised to offer opportunities for the local talent, was a beginning to realising his dream.

Former Malnad Area Development Board chairman K.S. Gurumurthy and others were present.
