Amit Kore. | Photo Credit: File photo Amit Kore has been elected as the new chairman of the board of directors of Karnataka Lingayat Educational (KLE) Society. The 46-year-old industrialist is the son of Prabhakar Kore, who retired from the post of chairman after serving the society for nearly 42 years, in various capacities. Amit’s name was announced in a meeting of directors in Belagavi on February 20, after it was unanimously decided upon by them. Prabhakar was named the honorary executive president. “Amit has been serving as a member of the board of management of KLE Society since 2010. He has been active and made valuable contributions in formulating administrative decisions, expansion plans and the long-term vision of the organisation. Amit, who has experience in the fields of cooperation, education, and industries, is known for his simplicity and courtesy,’’ said a release. He runs a couple of industries, including sugar factories. Amit is the vice-president of the National Federation of Co-operative Sugar Factories, New Delhi, and managing director of Hermes Distillery Pvt. Ltd. Dr. Doddawad, who is a director of the society, has been looking after the school education sector. She is now the chairperson of Kittur Channamma Cooperative Society, which was founded by her mother Asha Kore. The other office bearers are vice-president Tatavati Basavaraja Shivalingappa, secretary B.G. Desai, and joint secretaries S.S. Jalalpure and P.R. Kadakol. Members of the governing board, including Bagevadi Praveen Ashok, Dr. Doddawad, Kavatagimath Mahantesh Mallikarjun, Kolli Mallikarjun Chanabasappa, Metagood Vijay Srisailappa, Munavalli Manjunath Shankarappa, Patil Basavaraja Rudragowda, Patil Vishwanath Eeranagowda, Patil Yallangowda Shivamoggeppa, Patteda Anil Vijayabasappa, and others were present in the meeting. Headquartered in Belagavi, KLE is among the biggest educational institutions in the State. Seven teachers founded the society by starting the Gilginchi Aratal anglo-vernacular high school in 1916. It now has over 1.5 lakh students in 317 institutions and around 18,000 teachers and non-teaching staff. The society trust has over 13,000 members. The society also runs a chain of medical colleges and hospitals with superspeciality facilities.
