Smile Foundation and Berger Paints India Ltd. on February 18, 2026 ( Wednesday) launched the ‘iTrain on Wheels’ mobile skill training programme in Coimbatore. According to the organisers, this is the second such project in Tamil Nadu. The initiative provides free upskilling to unorganised paint applicators by training them in contemporary painting techniques, use of mechanised equipment, wood polishing, decorative finishes, entrepreneurship and soft skills. The training is delivered through a mobile unit equipped with audio-visual tools and practical booths, enabling painters to attend sessions near their homes or workplaces. Launched in 2021, the programme is operational across 26 States and three Union Territories, covering 503 districts, including 51 aspirational districts. So far, 3.15 lakh paint applicators have been trained under the initiative. The organisers said the training facilities are designed as gender-sensitive spaces and encourage women painters to participate. Certified trainers with industry experience conduct both theoretical and practical sessions.
