The Nagapattinam district police arrested two persons and seized 400 kg of banned tobacco products during a vehicle check near Velankanni, as part of an ongoing special drive.

According to the police, Superintendent of Police K.S. Ballakrisshnan had asked his department to step up vigil. Acting on specific intelligence, a team led by the Velankanni police conducted intensive vehicle checks near the railway station when they intercepted a car.

The occupants — Khan Batsingh ,29, of Barmer district and Arjun Singh .31, of Jalore district, both in Rajasthan — were found transporting banned tobacco products. Police seized the contraband weighing about 400 kg, the four-wheeler used for transportation, and a mobile phone, and brought the suspects to the police station for inquiry.

The police said the seized items included banned tobacco products (400 kg), a car, and a mobile phone.
