Elaborate arrangements have been made by the authorities of Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple at Brahman Kovil Street in Kumbakonam for devotees to worship Sri Sridevi-Bhoodevi sametha Perumal idols made of fig tree wood, from March 1. Inquiries reveal that these wooden idols were kept under lock and key at the temple, managed by the Saurashtra community, for various reasons since the early 1900s. The one-and-a-half-foot idols were taken out of the safety vault of the temple in the year 2013 and were kept in the open for public dharshan for ten days. Later, they were placed at the safety vault located within the temple premises. After a gap of 12 years, the temple authorities decided to place these idols for worship for 10 days from March 1, sources added.
