Pixar has unveiled the first trailer for Toy Story 5, reuniting Woody and Buzz Lightyear for another adventure that places the beloved toys face-to-face with a very modern threat: children’s growing dependence on digital devices.

The trailer reveals that Bonnie, now eight years old, has been given a tablet called the Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee. As Bonnie becomes increasingly absorbed in the device, the toys begin to worry that screens are replacing imagination, playtime and real-world connections. Jessie voices her fears about losing Bonnie’s attention, while Woody reflects on how childhood itself appears to be changing in an era dominated by technology. The preview shows Woody and Buzz teaming up once again, with Buzz greeting his old partner with a familiar sense of camaraderie as they set out to remind Bonnie of the joy of play beyond screens.

The returning voice cast includes Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie and Tony Hale as Forky, with Kristen Schaal, Blake Clark and other franchise regulars also back. New additions to the ensemble include Conan O’Brien and Ernie Hudson, adding fresh energy to the long-running series.

Andrew Stanton, a Pixar veteran who has been involved in every Toy Story film to date, serves as writer and co-director alongside Kenna Harris. Lindsey Collins produces the film. Stanton has previously indicated that the sequel explores questions of purpose and relevance, particularly for toys navigating a world that increasingly prioritises digital engagement.

The film follows the events of Toy Story 4, which saw Woody step away from Bonnie’s toy box in search of independence, leaving open questions about how that separation will shape the group’s future.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, continuing Pixar’s longest-running franchise after Toy Story 4 crossed $1 billion globally and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
