The family of a deceased head constable from the Coimbatore City Armed Reserve received ₹1 crore as insurance claim from the State Bank of India (SBI) on Thursday.

Coimbatore City Police Commissioner N. Kannan, along with senior officials from SBI, handed over the cheque for the insurance payout to S. Renuka, wife of deceased head constable A. Saravanan.

The police said Saravanan died of drowning in Amaravathi reservoir at Udumalpet on April 21, 2025.

He was covered under the accidental death insurance scheme offered by SBI, which was one of the seven banks that entered into memoranda of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to provide insurance coverage to government employees, who maintain their salary account with those banks, in May 2025, the police said.
