Brace up for a hot and humid summer as the maximum temperature will be above normal across the State during the summer months from March to May.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast above normal temperature during the three months.

N. Puviarasan, Head of IMD, Bengaluru said that the entire State would see above normal maximum temperatures during the three months with maximum probability (65% to 75%) predicted over Coastal Karnataka.

He added that above normal minimum temperature is also forecast over Coastal Karnataka and North-interior Karnataka.

Mr. Puviarasan said that in some parts of the North-interior Karnataka, there is likely to be heatwave conditions during the summer months.

“We are forecasting three to six days of heatwave for the North-interior Karnataka. Heatwaves are likely to occur during March and April in the region,” he said.

Mr. Puviarasan said above normal temperature is forecast for Bengaluru, however no heatwave is forecast for the city.

The normal temperature for Bengaluru during the months of March, April, and May are 33.4°C, 34.1°C, and 33.1°C, respectively.

The highest-ever temperature in March was 37.3°C, which was recorded in 1996. In April it was 39.2°C degrees Celsius in 2016; and in May 38.9°C, recorded in 1931.

On Thursday, Bengaluru recorded a maximum of 31.3°C and a minimum of 17.5°C.
