Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Binoy Viswam on Thursday said that Kerala, governed by the Left Democratic Front (LDF), stands as a gentle ray of light at a time when, he alleged, the country is being pushed into the depths of darkness marked by communalism and fascism under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Inaugurating the delegates’ session of the State conference of the State Service Pensioners’ Council in Thrissur, he said it was the collective responsibility of the people of Kerala to ensure that this light is not extinguished.

The conference was presided over by a presidium led by Sukesan Choolikkad. Revenue Minister K. Rajan honoured organisation leaders who had won in the local body elections.

The conference also elected a new 85-member State committee. Mr. Choolikkad was elected president and N. Sreekumar was elected general secretary while A. Nizarudheen was elected treasurer.
