The Irrigation Consultative Committee of the Bhadra Command Area Development Authority (CADA), which met on Friday, resolved to release Bhadra waters for summer cultivation through the left bank canal from Saturday, January 3, and through the right bank canal from January 8.

The committee met at the CADA office at Malavagoppa, near Shivamogga, under the chairmanship of Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa, who is also Minister in charge of Shivamogga district.

The Minister said that water would be released for the crops for 120 days through the canals. The committee arrived at this decision considering the water requirement for agricultural activities in summer. The Minister instructed CADA engineers to prepare an action plan to remove the silt in the canal and tanks in the command area. He said he would discuss the issue with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

S.N. Channabasappa and D.G. Shanthana Gowda, MLAs, CADA chairman K.P. Amshumanth and officers were present at the meeting.
