A three-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 17-year-old youth at Gangavaram under New Port police station limits in Visakhapatnam. The incident took place on February 18, and came to light after the girl’s mother lodged a complaint with the local police on Thursday. According to the New Port police, the youth is a friend of the girl’s father and had visited their house in the evening of February 18 and reportedly sexually assaulted the girl in the absence of her parents. Following a complaint, the New Port police took the accused into custody and are ascertaining additional details in the case. Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children under Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The girl was sent for medical examination.
