P. Raghu, chairman of the Karnataka State Commission for Safai Karmacharis, has directed officers of the department concerned to release minimum wages and other facilities to the karmacharis on time. He was addressing a meeting held in Yadgir on February 18 to discuss the facilities that are being given to karmacharis and hear their grievances. He warned that a notice will be issued to the officers if they deny paying minimum wages. “Minimum wages, health insurance, and other facilities should be extended to the karmacharies without any delay,” he advised the officers. Mr. Raghu also asked the karmacharis to raise their voices and demand facilities, stating that the commission will always stand with them. Workers at the gram panchayat level are also included in the category of karmacharis so they can avail the same benefits, he noted. Mahadevswamy, research officer of the commission, Additional Superintendent of Police Dharanesh, Lakshmikanth, Sharanabasappa, and others were present.
