Field-level police officers in the ranks of inspector, sub-inspector, and special sub-inspector serving in Mayiladuthurai district are being put through a special training programme on investigation of cases relating to unnatural deaths, use of technology during probe, and safeguarding the collected evidence among others.

The six-day programme is organised by the Mayiladuthurai district police authorities in batches for the field-level officers serving in Mayiladuthurai and Sirkazhi police sub-divisions separately. Senior police officers of Mayiladuthurai district in the ranks of Additional Superintendent of Police, District Superintendent of Police, and senior inspectors are handling sessions on various topics for 120 participants. The training is being organised on the instruction of Mayiladuthurai Superintendent of Police G. Stalin.

The police said the programme aimed at refreshing and enhancing the knowledge of the inspectors, sub-inspectors, and special sub-inspectors who are all investigating officers. The standard procedures to be followed by the investigation officers while carrying out investigation; ways of dealing with unnatural deaths such as hanging, consuming poison, and self-immolation, collection of evidences in respect of unnatural deaths; ways of probing cases booked under special and local laws, including cases booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, probe of sand smuggling cases and preparation of case related documents are among the aspects, which are being putforth to participants as part of the programme, the sources added.
