The Animal Husbandry Department has intensified the animal birth control programme and vaccination drive to administer anti-rabies vaccine to community dogs in Perambalur district, Collector N. Mirunalini has said. An Animal Birth Control centre has been established at Keezha Puliyur in Veppur Union in the district by the department to carry out sterilisation procedures on stray dogs. Sterilised dogs would have ‘V’ shaped marking on their ears, she said in a press release. Community dogs can be brought to the centre for sterilisation procedure between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The surgery would be done free of cost, Ms. Mirunalini said and advised those feeding community dogs to take additional care to the dogs for a few days after sterilisation.
