The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) has booked an Inspector of Police attached to the Anti-Vice Squad of the Greater Chennai Police for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to her known sources of income, estimated at 372%.

According to the FIR registered by the DVAC, the accused, K. Rajalakshmi, Inspector of Police, Anti-Vice Squad–1, Greater Chennai Police, Old Commissioner Office campus, Egmore, is under the purview of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Rajalakshmi entered service as a woman Sub-Inspector of Police on April 16, 1999. After her promotion as the Inspector of Police in 2010, she was posted continuously in sensitive positions within Chennai city and had received several adverse remarks. Considering this, her tenure in sensitive posts — from June 1, 2017 to June 30, 2025 — was used to assess her assets and income.

During this period, the value of assets allegedly acquired by Rajalakshmi was estimated at ₹5.42 crore, which is 372% disproportionate to her known sources of income.

The FIR further alleged that the reliable information disclosed a prima facie case that, during the period, she acquired movable and immovable properties worth ₹5.42 crore in her name and in the names of her family members through corrupt and illegal means, thereby intentionally enriching herself with assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.
