PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday criticised the State government and the police for attacking teachers protesting for “equal pay for equal work” for the eighth day in Chennai. In a statement, he said no State government had a history of lasting in power if it pushed teachers into protesting for equal pay. “The protesting teachers have been arrested in groups. Similarly, during yesterday’s protest, some teachers were brutally assaulted by the police. The DMK government unleashing repression against teachers who are protesting for justice is condemnable,” he said. “When the DMK was the Opposition, it supported this demand. In its election manifesto for the 2021 Assembly election, Mr. Stalin promised (No. 311) that if the DMK came to power, the wage discrepancies for teachers would be resolved,” he pointed out.
