The BWSSB will provide 4 million litres per day (MLD) treated water from the Nagasandra Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to the industrial area. While the output of the STP meets the National Green Tribunal (NGT) standards, the BWSSB is all set to establish another tertiary treatment plant to further treat the STP output before supplying it to industries. This would make it ‘ultra pure’ and increase the acceptability among users, and its shelf life as well, BWSSB Chairman V. Ram Prasath Manohar said. The board has recently done a pilot project establishing a tertiary treatment plant of 70 KLD capacity at Kadubeesanahalli STP and is deploying the same technology at the Nagasandra STP. “The tertiary treatment plant will be done in a Public Private Partnership mode, for which we are looking for an ideal partner. Once we get that, it can be operationalised in three to four months time,” Mr. Manohar said. Meanwhile, the BWSSB will spend an estimated ₹27 crore to lay a distribution pipeline of 27 km between the Nagasandra STP and industries in the Peenya Industrial Area and construct a Sump-cum-Pump House and an overhead tank with 5 lakh litre capacity. This will put in place a dual piping system to ensure treated water to be used for non-potable purposes and does not mix with potable water, a first-of-its-kind project in Bengaluru. “We are working with the motto ‘Cauvery for Homes, Ultra Pure Treated Water for Industries’. We are willing to partner with other industrial hubs as well to provide ultra pure treated water,” Mr. Manohar said.
