The First Additional District and Session Court, on Wednesday, convicted a person of committing sexual assault on a minor girl and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, besides imposing a penalty of ₹ 1.3 lakh. The 28-year-old individual from Tirthahalli taluk abducted a 17-year-old girl and sexually assaulted her. The survivor’s mother filed a complaint with the police. The case was booked under the POCSO Act, besides relevant sections of the IPC. Then Police Inspector of Tirthahalli Ashwath Gowda conducted the investigation and filed the charge-sheet. The judge, after hearing the case, convicted the accused and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, besides the penalty. The court also ordered a compensation of ₹ 4 lakh for the survivor.
