Stressing that the sale, storage and use of Chinese manja is illegal, Cyberabad Police said 53 cases have already been registered in 2025 against those selling the banned thread. Citizens have been urged to use only cotton kite strings, fly kites in open grounds away from traffic and power lines, supervise children, and report illegal sale or use of manja to the police. Police said several riders suffered severe injuries after becoming entangled by sharp kite strings on busy roads including Miyapur–Chandanagar, Madhapur, Hitech City, Kukatpally and Gachibowli. In one recent incident on Balanagar road, a motorist sustained a grievous neck injury when a hanging kite string caught him mid-traffic. Officers said kite strings often remain suspended from trees and power lines, creating invisible and life-threatening hazards for road users. Police also flagged the danger to wildlife, with birds dying after their wings get entangled in kite strings and street animals suffer serious injuries.
