Expressing confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will form the government in Karnataka after the 2028 Assembly elections, JD(S) youth wing president Nikhil Kumaraswamy on Wednesday again reiterated that people across the State want Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy as the Chief Minister. He had made a similar assertion at a party rally in Hassan in January.

Addressing party workers during the “Janarondige Janata Dal” campaign and launching the JD(S) membership enrolment drive at Periyapatna near Mysuru, Mr. Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of Mr. Kumaraswamy, criticised the Congress government, alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s tenure had only increased the State’s debt burden.

Mr. Nikhil Kumaraswamy said the demand for Mr. Kumaraswamy to become Chief Minister was not merely his personal view. Referring to his 9,000-km Statewide tour, he claimed to have personally witnessed people recalling Mr. Kumaraswamy’s governance with appreciation.

Mr. Nikhil Kumaraswamy also responded to Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, saying he would demonstrate his strength in the coming days. “Victory or defeat in elections is not permanent. In 2028, people will decide whom to elect and whom to defeat,” he said.
