Both Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSRCP leaders are ready to lock horns following the announcement of the Nellore Municipal Corporation Mayoral election date by the State Election Commissioner recently.

In the notification, the SEC directed the officials to conduct elections at 11 a.m. on February 26. If the election cannot be held on the scheduled date, the officials were directed to conduct it compulsorily the next day, on February 27. The Nellore mayoral seat has been reserved for a woman candidate from the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.

Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Roop Kumar Yadav of TDP has been the in-charge Mayor following the resignation of former Mayor Potluri Sravanthi. Mr. Yadav, along with Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanti Reddy, met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at Amaravati, on Tuesday

He explained to the Chief Minister the development works undertaken by him as in-charge Mayor in the last couple of months. Mr. Naidu reportedly congratulated him and wished him a good future.

Meanwhile, Ms. Sravanthi met Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram in New Delhi and discussed with him the problems of tribal people in the State. She also met Committee for Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) Chairperson Faggan Singh Kulaste in New Delhi on the same day. She discussed in detail with him on the various issues of STs in the State.
