Kerala Muslim Jamat general secretary Syed Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari Thangal on Thursday demanded that the government issue a white paper detailing institutions allotted to various communities, saying it would bring out the actual figures and clear public confusion.

He appears to be responding to SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan’s allegation that permission was being denied to set up education institutions in Malappuram.

Mr. Thangal told reporters that political parties should respond to the remarks and clarify whether any community had received benefits undeservedly. “The public has the right to know how much each community has received,” he said.

He also said the distance between the factions in Samastha was narrowing and expressed hope that unity would be achieved soon.

Mr. Natesan had alleged that Ezhavas in Malappuram were being reduced to vote banks with only job guarantees, claiming they were denied political, economic and educational justice due to lack of organisation as a strong vote bloc. He made the remarks at an SNDP conference in Malappuram.
