Over 300 women anganwadi workers courted arrests on Wednesday (February 18, 2026) even as their protests entered the 18th day in Krishnagiri. The protesters courted arrests reiterating the demands for hike in payments, fulfilling the election manifesto promises by the DMK government among a raft of other demands. Hike in payments for anganwadi workers that included ₹15,700 for cooks, ₹19,500 for anganwadi workers, extension of National health insurance for health care workers, filling up of 60,000 vacancies, 12 month maternity leave, menstrual leave and 12 day casual leave, were reiterated. The protesters also demanded maintenance pay during suspension of workers. The Anganwadi workers association also demanded ₹10 lakh gratuity payment, pension dearness allowance to enable a dignified life after retirement and one month summer vacation.
