Motorist crushed to death by falling lorry near Natrampalli

A 37-year-old motorist was killed after an lorry overturned and fell on him on Bynapalli Koot Road near Natrampalli town in Tirupattur on Friday.

The police have arrested the lorry owner, S. Navamani, 48, and its driver K. Rangasamy, 28. The deceased was identified as A. Suresh, a mason from Byanapalli village.

Initial inquiry revealed that a special team of the Natrampalli police, patrolling the area based on a tip-off, tried to stop Rangasamy, who was driving the lorry loaded with illegally mined sand. But he gave the team the slip by speeding away in the vehicle. The police said Rangasamy lost control of the vehicle, which overturned and fell on Suresh. He was crushed to death. The incident happened around 11 a.m.

The body was sent to the Government Taluk Hospital in Tirupattur for a post-mortem. A case was registered. The arrested were lodged at the sub-jail in Tirupattur. A probe is under way.
