Kannada classes underway at  Pai Layout Residents Welfare Association

For decades now, Bengaluru has been attracting job seekers from every corner of the country. The presence of public sector units such HMT, ITI, BEL and more, has seen people flock to the city from the 1950s, and by the ‘90s and early 2000s, it was the IT boom that brought in the hordes, irreversibly changing the demographics of the city.

However, learning the local language did not seem to be a priority for most newcomers and though the city turned multilingual, a sense of resentment lingered, even though in some cases it was the lack of opportunity.
