The Health Department on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a voluntary organisation working in the field of dementia to ensure early detection and treatment of dementia among individuals aged 60 years and above. According to a press release, the department signed the MoU with Dementia India Alliance for early identification, provision of medical care, creating awareness, promoting preventive measures, training for medical personnel and caregivers in caring for those with dementia, support for family members and caregivers, establishment of care centres, and to take up research related to dementia. Health Secretary P. Senthilkumar and Radha Murthy, president of Dementia India Alliance signed the MoU in the presence of Health Minister Ma. Subramanian. The National Centre of Ageing will function as the coordinating centre for implementing the initiative, the release said.
