Nikhil B., an IPS officer who took charge as Shivamogga Superintendent of Police, has said he will give priority to victim-centric policing, besides giving attention to maintaining law and order and taking steps to stop crimes against women and children.

Mr. Nikhil, who took charge on January 1, addressed the media in Shivamogga on January 2. “The DG&IGP (Director-General & Inspector-General of Police) of the State has repeatedly spoken about victim-centric policing and has given instructions. Victims who visit the stations will be treated with respect, and efforts will be made to provide them justice,” he said.

Referring to the issue of drug consumption and peddling in the district, the officer said that the police will spread awareness among the youngsters against drug consumption. Besides that, they will take stern action against those in the trade.

“The district police will give preference to ensure that Shivamogga is drug-free. The Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister want the State to become drug-free,” he said. The officer said the police will observe Police Day regularly. On that day, the police will spend time with students to spread awareness against drug consumption.

The Superintendent of Police said that he will initiate a separate WhatsApp channel called Public Eye to have direct contact with people of the district. The public can convey their complaints and grievances through the channel.
