To ensure timely completion of turmeric harvesting and address labour shortages, the Department of Agricultural Engineering has made turmeric digging machines available for rent at ₹460 per hour in the district. A release from Collector S. Kandasamy, said turmeric harvesting in the district requires considerable time and a large workforce. In order to prevent delays and overcome the scarcity of labourers, the department is offering turmeric diggers on a rental basis to farmers. The machine, which can be operated using a mini tractor, is suitable even for small fields. It enables easy and damage-free harvesting of turmeric, significantly reducing dependence on manual labour and helping farmers complete harvesting within the stipulated period. Three turmeric digging machines have been stationed in the Erode sub-division and three in the Gobichettipalayam sub-division for rental. Farmers have been requested to make advance bookings through the e-rental online application to avail themselves of the facility. For further details, farmers may contact the Assistant Executive Engineer (Agricultural Engineering), Erode, at 0424-2904843 or 9894183367, and the Assistant Executive Engineer (Agricultural Engineering), Gobichettipalayam, at 04285-290069 or 9443547484, the Collector said.
