As part of an intensified Christmas and New Year enforcement drive, the Kollam Excise Range team led by Inspector R. Rajith intercepted a narcotics delivery on Friday and arrested 40-year-old Akbarsha of Koikkal. He was apprehended from the east part of the Koikkal temple in Kilikollur and the officials seized 5.001 g of MDMA, intended for distribution, which had been hidden in a motorcycle. The crackdown followed intelligence regarding a spike in synthetic drug trafficking during the festive season, prompting rigorous day-and-night patrolling across the district. According to authorities, Akbarsha is a repeat offender with a history of multiple prison sentences for both cannabis and synthetic drug-related crimes. The accused was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
