An awareness session on the ‘Role of Spiders in Our Ecosystem’ titled ‘Why Spiders Matter?’ has been organised by the Indian Institute of Educational Theatre (IIET) on its premises at Hardwicke School on Jhansi Lakshmi Bai Road in Mysuru on January 4.

A press statement issued by IIET said the awareness session, focusing on the importance of spiders in our ecosystem, will begin at 12 p.m.

“The session will feature a presentation and interactive discussion by Dr. Abhijith A.P.C, a noted expert in the field, who will highlight the ecological significance of spiders, their role in maintaining environmental balance, and their contribution to natural pest control,” the statement added.

Referring to the “common fears and misconceptions” surrounding spiders, the statement said the awareness programme aims to educate the public about their vital presence in nature and the need for conservation of these often-misunderstood creatures.

Through visuals, scientific insights, and audience interaction, the session seeks to create awareness among students, educators, nature enthusiasts, and the general public about biodiversity and sustainable living, the statement noted.

The organisers believe that understanding small yet crucial species like spiders is essential for protecting ecosystems and fostering ecological responsibility. “The programme is open to all, and entry is free. IIET invites citizens, students, environmentalists, and theatre practitioners to participate in this knowledge-sharing initiative that blends science, awareness, and education,” the statement said.
