Around 80 sovereigns of gold jewellery were allegedly stolen from the house of an auditor in Karungalpalayam here on Tuesday (February 17, 2026). According to the police, Rajan, 59, an auditor residing in Lakshmi Narayanan Nagar, and his wife Nirmala, a private school teacher, left to work as usual. It is suspected that an unidentified person, who had been monitoring the house, took the key hidden at a concealed location, gained entry into the premises, opened a bureau and decamped with about 80 sovereigns of gold jewellery. The incident came to light when the couple returned home in the evening. A police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Town) M. Muthukumaran visited the spot and conducted inquiries. An investigation is under way.
