P.M. Mannan, M.K. Alagiri’s loyalist, joins AIADMK

P.M. Mannan, former DMK Madurai Deputy Mayor and supporter of former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri, on Tuesday joined the AIADMK in the presence of party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami in Chennai.

Mr. Mannan has been a staunch supporter of Mr. Alagiri. He was expelled from the DMK alongside Mr. Alagiri in 2014. He was the Deputy Mayor of Madurai between 2006 and 2011. He was seen at the birthday party of Mr. Alagiri in Madurai on January 30. Sources said Mr. Mannan’s attempts to rejoin the DMK did not fructify, so he chose to join the rival AIADMK. Mr. Mannan and his supporters joined the AIADMK after meeting Mr. Palaniswami in the presence of AIADMK Madurai urban unit district secretary K. Raju.

Rumours were rife that DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin would visit his elder brother Mr. Alagiri to greet him on his birthday on January 30. However, that did not happen to the disappointment of Mr. Alaigiri’s supporters, who wanted to revive their political life with the DMK.
