An earthmover dug up the ground to mark the beginning of the work to be executed at a cost of ₹45.60 crore. Sivakasi MLA G. Ashokan and Sivakasi Sub-Collector Mohammed Irfan were present. The MLA said that the 30-year-old dream of the people of Sivakasi was getting realised with the construction of the bridge which will eliminate the railway level-crossing on the road connecting Tiruthangal with Keezha Tiruthangal. A total of ₹32.87 crore had been spent on land acquisition for the project. The 804-metre-long bridge would have 15 piers. The work was scheduled to be completed within 15 months, the MLA said. The new facility would greatly benefit the industrial city of Sivakasi by decongesting the traffic on Sivakasi-Virudhunagar highway. Already another new overbridge had been commissioned at Satchiyapuram.
