The Udupi police have arrested Alif Islam, 21, of West Bengal, in connection with the case registered on spying Indian Navy ships that were being built at the Udupi Cochin Shipyard and Cochin Shipyard Limited’s Kochi Shipyard.

In a press release, the Udupi’s Malpe police said Islam was staying in a rented house at Munnar in Idukki district of Kerala. He was arrested on Monday and produced before the jurisdictional court on Tuesday. The court remanded him in judicial custody till February 21. The police suspect Islam to be a Bangladeshi national.

On the compliant lodged by CEO Udupi Cochin Shipyard on November 19, 2025 the Malpe police arrested Rohit, 29, and Santri, 37, both from Sultanpur District in Uttar Pradesh. The two worked for Shushma Marine Private Limited, as a subcontractor of Udupi Cochin Shipyard in Malpe.

They were accused of unauthorised sharing to Pakistani people, through WhatsApp, the confidential list of numbers of ships related to the Indian Navy along with other sensitive information, and obtaining illegal financial gain.

With the arrest of Islam, the police have so far arrested a total of five accused in the case.
