Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy has urged the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, to retain the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Mysuru unit, citing its crucial role in government outreach and public communication across southern Karnataka. Mr. Kumaraswamy, in a recent letter to Mr. Vaishnaw, expressed concern over the proposed restructuring of the regional and field offices of the CBC, which includes the discontinuation of the Mysuru unit. He noted that the Mysuru office plays a key role in last-mile communication, coordination with district administrations, and dissemination of Government of India initiatives. He pointed out that the closure of the Mysuru unit would adversely affect communication outreach in Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, and Hassan districts, all of which depend on a dedicated field office for effective information flow. Highlighting Mysuru’s cultural and historical significance, Mr. Kumaraswamy described the city as the cultural capital of Karnataka, home to iconic landmarks such as the Mysuru palace and Jaganmohan Palace, and globally known for its Dasara celebrations. Given the national and international attention drawn by major cultural and public events in the region, he stressed the need for a functional CBC office to ensure seamless communication and coordination. The Minister also drew attention to the sizeable tribal population in the region, including Jenu Kuruba, Kadu Kuruba, Soliga, and Yerava communities, and underlined the importance of sustained communication and focused outreach for these communities. Mr. Kumaraswamy has requested the Union Minister to extend support for retaining the CBC Mysuru office and to initiate the necessary administrative process at the earliest.
