Nagaraja inaugurating the seminar at IDS in University of Mysore in Mysuru on February 17. | Photo Credit: M.A. Sriram A two-day seminar on ‘Emerging Trends in Organic Farming, Agribusiness and its Impact on Rural Development’ began at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Mysore, here on February 17. N. Nagaraja, Registrar (Evaluation), University of Mysore, inaugurated the seminar. C.P. Gracy, professor, Institute of Agribusiness Management, Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra, Bengaluru, was the chief guest. Prof. Gracy said sustainable and organic agricultural practices help to secure rural livelihoods and achieve long-term food security. He stressed the need for integrating agribusiness innovations with rural development strategies. Mr. Nagaraja emphasised the critical role of organic farming and agribusiness innovation in achieving sustainable rural development and enhancing farmers’ livelihoods. He said promotion of organic farming, value addition, and market-oriented agribusiness models can improve farmers’ income. Ganapathi M.S. and Chidananda were resource persons at the seminar. They spoke on challenges and opportunities in organic farming, value-chain development, and policy frameworks. H.M. Chandrashekar, director, Institute of Development Studies, and M. Meera were present. The two-day seminar has brought together academicians, policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to discuss emerging trends in organic farming, agribusiness management, and sustainable rural development.
