Deputy Commissioner Kumar said that India’s first digital census, scheduled for 2027, will be conducted in two phases. The first phase, comprising house-listing and housing census, will be carried out from April 16, 2026 to September 15, 2026, while the population enumeration phase will take place in February 2027.

Speaking at a preparatory meeting held at his office regarding the 2027 census on February 17, Dr. Kumar said that the Deputy Commissioner will serve as the Chief Census Officer at the district level. He directed officials to ensure the timely appointment of required staff, including teachers and government employees, for carrying out the digital house-listing and housing census.

He said the recruitment of enumerators and supervisors must be completed through the CMMS portal. Officials were also instructed to make adequate preparations for GPS-based digital mapping as part of the census process.

Dr. Kumar said officials and staff must clearly understand and follow the key guidelines issued by the government to ensure the census is conducted effectively.

He urged authorities to treat the staffing process seriously and ensure smooth implementation of the large-scale exercise.

Additional Deputy Commissioner B.S. Shivanandamurthy stressed the need for coordinated efforts among teachers and personnel from various departments.

Mandya Sub-Divisional Officer M. Shivamurthy, District Urban Development Cell Planning Officer Narasimha Murthy, and other district-level officials were present at the meeting.
