An allocation of ₹3 crore has been proposed for the expansion of the Bamboo Park coming up at SIHS Colony in Ward 55 of the Coimbatore Corporation, with plans to add an open gym, a children’s play area and other facilities.

The park is being developed over an extent of 4.14 acres at an estimated cost of ₹1.48 crore. It will feature around 20 tree species and more than 25 varieties of plants, shrubs and bamboo. According to a senior official, the front portion of the park will include a 200-seater amphitheatre, a yoga space and toilet facilities. The rear portion, spread over nearly two acres, is planned to house an open gym, a children’s play area and gaming facilities such as a badminton court.

The official said that, under the initial proposal, about 80% of the work has been completed. The remaining works include the construction of a 1.5-km pathway, a compound wall and minor plantation, which are expected to be completed within a month.

The proposed ₹3-crore upgrade for additional facilities is likely to be taken up after the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the official added.
