Andhra Pradesh State Irrigation Development Corporation (APSIDC) Director Kotagiri Narayana Rao has said that the corporation will focus on lift irrigation schemes to bring more barren land under cultivation in Vizianagaram, Parvatipuram-Manyam and Srikakulam districts. He said APSIDC Chairman Vegulla Leela Krishna and other Board members had given in-principle approval for the proposal at the corporation’s third meeting held recently in Amaravati. Mr. Narayana Rao, a BJP State Executive Committee member who was recently appointed as APSIDC Director, told The Hindu that the optimum utilisation of irrigation potential would enable farmers to raise two crops a year and earn a decent income. He said the Collectors of the three North Andhra districts had been asked to convene meetings with Irrigation Department engineers to finalise the project proposals, which would be placed before the next meeting of the corporation.
